Anish Kapoor exhibition
My friend had been briefly to this exhibition and when she told me about it, I knew that i had to go.
It featured hollow places.
Anish Kapoor is a British-Indian artist and the exhibition I saw was at the Hayward Gallery.
The holes are actually holes. The one in the floor is two metres deep. The ones in the walls just under one and a half metres. This the ushers and museum guide all said. But what you see is flat black. It is weird and unsettling. Astonishing. I was desperate to reach in.
Then there are gashes like wounds and openings like portals.
There was a room, or two, full of sculptures of what looked like vast piles of monstrous viscera.
He's interested in ritual and sacrifice. In the proximity of awe and death.
