Tane

Well, I think this is a different robin baby - this is less shy than Tapdance and I think a little younger. Not that they are exactly friendly.

The name is an issue of cultural appropriation - and I send apologies to the Maori. It means King of the Forests and the Birds. I came across it in Elderflora by Jared Farmer. It is very detailed and exquisitely researched - meaning one gets the history of all the world's ancient trees.... not so much their botanical history as their history since we started cutting them down. 4% of this remain, 2% of that. It's also a history of colonialism and climate change.

If I had a pollution-free form of travel and unlimited funds plus could make a pilgrimage without actually damaging the trees or their ecosystems further, I would criss-cross the globe to see these great beings.

Instead, I stay in the garden and watch the blackbird.

No white mark, so I think this is the younger female, not Mrs B. Ms B, maybe.

Meanwhile, the squirrels were getting up to mischief.

I am excited to know how to pronounce Tane's name now. Good to see the photos of Tane and the blackbirds. And I do enjoy the antics and photos of the handsome squirrels. That's interesting that the two squirrels are very peace-able about sharing. I wonder if they are related. Anyway it's nice they share. I read the bit about the tree book at the link. Very interesting what is said about the underground root networks and the age of trees.
