An astonishing find!

This community garden is right in the middle of the busy West End! What a haven it is! And I had never known that it existed.

They have names on some of the trees to help people relate to them, and loads of scented plants. A pond and bird baths. Loads of flowers for pollinators. Even some vegetables growing in raised beds.
It was delightful.

This was one of the best bits, up above the compost pile, showing how long it takes for various objects to decompose.

I stepped out of the garden to resume my route to Leicester Square, and as I turned a corner, I saw this.

A cool sculpture, but the real magic was in Phoenix Garden.

What a good idea and they've been around for awhile. Interesting history - "Being on a former bombsite, the garden sits on top of rubble filled cellars, and has only very thin rubble-filled soil." Things grow well so I bet they make good use of compost and that the birds and squirrels enjoy the space as well as humans.
