The pony would not move. He was leaning over the kissing gate and I had to raise his head to open the gate and pass through.

This is not hugely relevant to what has occupied my mind today. Instead, I have been thinking of this...
13 million dogs in UK
500g meat per day per dog on average
320kg of meat on one cow, so one cow feeds 640 dogs per day
Britain’s dogs eat the equivalent of 20,000 cows per day. In the UK 7,800 cows are killed each day on average.
700m to 1bn dogs in the world. Say 400m have homes, they'd eat 615,000 cows each day... 900,000 cows are killed in the world each day.
13 million cats in UK
1 chicken feeds 27 cats per day (3.5kg of meat on one chicken, a cat eats about 130g a day)
The equivalent of 482,000 chickens per day are eaten by Britain’s cats - we kill 287,000 chickens a day in the UK.
The 220m domestic cats in the world would eat each day the equivalent of 8.16m chickens – globally, 202 million chickens are killed each day.
I can do something on horses....
5.7 million acres in the UK are National Parks
Horse grazing in the UK probably totals a land use of about 1/8th of that... but at least half of this land is pretty good for biodiversity, certainly better than industrial agriculture.

Oh. Too much. Too much.
