A few weeks ago my walking friend, whom I met during the first lockdown when she walked and I ran at the same time and whose name I don't know but I wish to call her Vanessa, told me that many trees had fallen over there.
Over there is here. This was a big oak. And see the horses who live out in this paddock? How scared must they have been?
We have fallen, don't you think? Killing our planet with everything we do? You know solar panels involve mining for some precious substance? You know conservation means intervention and assassination? You know that agriculture uses 115% of the Colorado's water? Yes, 115%!!!!
98% of the top soil in much of the world. GONE.
98% of the forest.
200 species a day.
Jesus H Christ. How many cheeks can the planet turn???
Today, feel love for earthworms. I know that Companion Crone is aware of all the good they do. I saw a blackbird trying to pull one from the soil. The worm stretched out like an elastic band as the bird applied his full weight. Worms are contaminated by the waste from contraceptive pills. Starlings have become less fertile. You don't hear feminists talking about that when they discuss the merits of the Pill.
Because the humans don't give a flying fuck if it inconveniences them to do otherwise.
Says the human who has a) a leather coat, b) buys dead animals for her pets, c) has pets, d) drives a diesel.
Hypocrites R us.
Re. worms, you reminded me that I started reading Darwin's book on earthworms several years ago but for whatever reason didn't get very far. I'll put it on my To Read list again. Here's a couple of articles. It was a big seller at the time and was his last published book. https://www.nypl.org/blog/2012/04/19/earthworms-darwins-last-manuscript
My gosh there's even an earthworm society in the UK! https://www.earthwormsoc.org.uk/ This next article is a reminder of some people's ability to keenly observe and patiently record. Some good tidbits here in case we don't get all the book read :-D - https://www.earthwormwatch.org/blogs/darwins-worms
