I'm always trying to get pictures of birds in motion. It's often difficult because of the leaves and so on and also because of my ineptitude. Oh, and because as the light isn't always ideal, movement gets out of focus.
You've seen some of the cool pictures of birds free-falling into flight. These pictures show actual flight.
On this occasion I managed to get a few sequences and I put them together in a slideshow. The hopping baby blackbird takes up the longest section. There's also a starling, a great tit and Bobbit.
What would it be like to have wings?
Flying - good theme for a post.
I was glad to see the photos of dear Bobbit and the magical blur of his wings when flying.
I am impressed by the glorious fan-shaped tail feathers of the pigeons and I learned that they act like a rudder ((which makes sense).
" The rectrices or tail flight feathers are mainly concerned with stability and control. They are used as a rudder, helping to steer and balance the bird and allow the bird to twist and turn in flight. These feathers also act as a brake for landing."
And yes, it must feel very good indeed to have wings. And don't forget the tail feathers so we could fly with great skill…
