Indian summer

It was so warm that I sat out in the garden in shorts and a vest top to do some work in preparation for a presentation next month. While out there, I could hear the blackbird clucking companionably nearby. Then the calls of a little flock of long-tailed tits. These little chaps are so delightful!
They seem to be a little less wary of humans than some of the other garden birds.

The previous day, standing under the back lilac, a little gathering of goldcrests came through for a brief forage.
There has not been much in the way of singing. Just the chatter of starlings and the contact calls of various tits. Goldfinches pass over sometimes, and they are always singing. The robins are quiet - I tend to hear them complaining, that's all. And still no wrens, apparently.
I miss the companionship of Bobbit... and wonder if something in me has changed: that the birds no longer regard me as a benign presence.

It was very special what you had with Bobbit x
