Invasion of the bark eaters

Look, I'm fond of grey squirrels and quite fond of muntjacs, but the aspersion is true.
I sat so still by Kairos for such a long time that the deer forgot I was there and did not notice me.
On the way back to the car, I met a man who said that the roe deer tend to be in the next block of woodland. I would love to be spending this time with them. They are bark eaters too but are prettier. And native, if that really matters.
This man's grandfather went to the same sanatorium as Robert Graves, both suffering shell shock. He said his grandfather had been at the Battle of the Somme. Strangely, his wife's grandfather is buried in the same cemetery as Robert Graves.
The garden birds are keeping their distance. There may be two blackbird children, but I hardly see the robins and tits. This is rather sad as I have new feeders and I never get to see anyone use them.
The little bonsais are doing OK, even the one whose stem I snapped, but I think the lilac-eating caterpillars are back. They feed at night.... so I can't even rely on the birds to help me.
