I went to the Natural History Museum to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. I can't recall the last time I explored the exhibits.. well, I am sure I visited as a kid, under ten, but maybe as an adult in my twenties. I did see the photography competition entries in 2015, I think it was.
There was a rather impressive dinosaur outside, whom I saw in natural and artificial light.
The photos were great. There were some fabulous drone images of the tundra which looked like Aboriginal dot paintings. There was a wonderful shot of a leopard looking out from the window of a dilapidated factory. It was so unexpectedly and perfectly framed (!). The photos by young photographers (under ten!!!!) were incredible.
And then there was a tiger. He or she had been rescued from a tiger farm. The cat was so dreadfully thin, almost too weak to stand. He or she was resting with head against the wall. It was devastating. And there was an elephant walking through a rubbish dump - just a grey shape in a sea of multicoloured plastic.
The dinosaurs were lucky to miss us. They'd celebrate that meteor if they had known what was coming.
