I was outside having a vape - turns out it's not as illegal as I had thought - when I heard a song.
Yes, a singing tree.
I could see the bird, and it looked like a large great tit. But that wasn't the song of a tit, was it?
I got closer, and it flew up to perch on the balcony of the building.
No idea why that video looks like that. It was on the work phone. But you can hear the song, I think.
Turns out, it's a white-eared bulbul. Here is a much better video.
And here you can see that these are rather pretty little birds.
Something that you couldn't tell from this..
I need to retrieve the DLR camera a lent to someone's child a few years ago. This is just depressing. Worse than my drawings.
Even worse is my shot of a crow. I am thinking that it may be a house crow - which is exciting. Not that you can tell from this, but the only corvids here are house crows and brown ravens.
Yep. That small black speck right of centre.
Nor did it make any noise.
Birding in Doha: not exactly a success story.
However, I have once seen some kind of falcon flying free (I think a kestrel) and I also saw swifts! Who must have returned from their northern summer. Although apparently they are 'uncommon winter visitors'.
White-eared bulbul - That's a great name! And it has a pleasant to listen to chirpy song. Cool that you found a house crow.
