Oak and ash - and other tree-folk

Mischa pointed this out to me as we were touring the Reserve.

The two trees look to be joined at the base.

It's incredible that they managed to make it this far so close together!

The next day, I saw two oaks fused like those beeches in The Cover.

Mischa said, "Trees really are amazing, aren't they?"

This is her favourite tree. An oak.

The Reserve does have a variety of trees - even if the pines, larches, oaks and willows are the most common. There are beeches, the sycamores, of course, holly trees, poplars and alder.

Mischa says she thinks these were planted - they look much the same age and don't look entirely natural. This, though, is good habitat for them: wet woodland or carr.

Willow also likes this.

These did colonise on their own and some are massive. I told Mischa about the star-shaped ones I saw the other day - it's like the trunks open up like petals on a flower. She said that one here was so big that you could see its star-shape on Google Earth!

I wonder if this is it? Or indeed if this link takes you to the resolution I went to...

I saw what I think you're describing at Google Earth link - it shows up clearly!
