Samhain promise

Samhain, which is surprisingly pronounced Sow (rhymes with how) an, was the start of the new year... for the new year started with a going into rest. It was the final of three harvests: harvest of grass crops, harvest of fruits, and harvest of nuts. It signaled the days being shorter than the nights and the time for entering the liminal places and "the fertile void".

Very apt considering my current focus on the hollow.

The woman who led the celebration I went to (which was run by the Resurgence Trust), asked us how different it would be if we thought of new things starting with rest and recuperation, with integration and assimilation rather than action. I liked that.

She asked what we were willing to let go. I thought about my need to always be looking for a "more than". She asked about intentions. I thought about career change. I thought about giving, maybe, rather than taking.

So much for the end of autumn and start of winter, though. One of my roses, who has already been pruned, thinks it's time to bloom.
