Yeah, so much for the upbeat stuff recently.

I got the feedback on my shortened version of the animal essay. Oh Lord, there's a lot of rewriting to do. All good points and I know it'll make it better and stronger and that's great. It's what I want. And I have time.

But here's what's bad. All that was wrong about that one is MORE wrong in my second one. I kind of feel that I need to start all over again.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I do. I've nearly finished the fucking thing but it does not answer the question. It is not focused on what the question is.

Maybe I can do something about it. Maybe I can rescue it.

The question is 'human enhancement is not possible, discuss.' And I'm not really discussing that. What I'm doing is saying that the two extremes have an awe response. Yay. So the fuck what?

Maybe... the reason that human enhancement is not possible is because there is no essence of human - bioconservatives have awe for what does not exist, transhumanists for what does not yet exist and... what?? Oh it's a waste of time.

OK. Square one. I'll just say HE is not possible because for it to be possible there has to be a human essence which can be enhanced 'as a unit'. So I say, there is no essence. What's commonly regarded as natural to humans involves many negatives. We don't want them enhanced. Even some positives (empathy) have negative sides. Who decides what's positive? Individualism or collectivism? Let's say we came up with an objective list of traits. This would not be any recognisable human essence, but couldn't enhancing all these traits lead to HE? I say no - it might lead to the enhancement of individual humans and to the enhancement of humanity, but not to HE.

Can I stretch that to 3,500 words? Oh, maybe.

Buggery BOLLOCKS.
