It started when I was at the Reserve. Indeed, we spent the whole day driving around in the snow (we were doing a structure check). And as I left, I filmed this.
I was due to go to Barnes with the Lings crew the next day. Mischa and I had been saying "It won't settle."
Well, it did.
Here's my garden the next morning.
I gave the birds extra food. Long tailed tits have been visiting and there is a regular blackcap as well as the robins, dunnocks, great, coal and blue tits, blackbirds and starlings.
The task was cancelled and so I decided to walk over to Harlestone Firs - where I hadn't been for at least a year.
The walk is significantly less pleasant than it used to be as they are doing flood prevention work along the route - so the footpath is fenced off with earthworks on either side.
Still, the wood looks nice in the snow.
I know a man who wages war on silver birches. But even he couldn't wish THIS on a tree!
Never seen a canker that big on a tree that small.
I was struggling to identify the trees in the Firs. There are beeches, chestnuts, sycamores and oaks as well as the birches and firs, but they don't look as... typical as the trees I usually see. Now did I really see any that I would have chosen as a "Gaia" tree.
I did find some old stools. Wuth baby firs taking up residence!
But the best thing was a crow family on the way home. One parent - one of the two shown here - was bathing in the snow, which was super sweet!
I decided to film the one that didn't fly away. He was finding bugs in horse shit.
And this is just so adorable!
Busy crows. I like how in the last video, the crow does a little hop!!
