I went to visit the ancient oak and was delighted to see that he is in as good health as previously - despite the drought.
The shame is that no picture can capture the tree's grandeur. He really is immense.
There is a lovely hole about eight feet up, where a raptor regularly perches. Below, the space between root buttresses is full of pellets. So many of them! I found some here before, but the number of them now is vast. I wonder if an owl is using the hole? You can see it in some of the pictures.
I didn't have long as I had to rush back for work, but I was so glad to reconnect.
Yes, I can clearly see the hole in the last photo in the row (right end). Special tree!
