View from work

So, this is what I see when I look through the window. I'm not sure what the dots are for. If it's insulation of a sort, let me tell you it doesn't work. This place is freezing on winter weekend evenings and backing on autumnal afternoons.

The view is the car park. Nice. But the sun sets through this window and that can be beautiful. Though I tend to be looking at a screen not a scene.

Anyway, this is my perspective as I do stuff to earn money to pay for peanuts and books about crows. Among other things. While we're on the topic, Savage's Crows was good but short, while Gifts of the Crow seems very, very promising.

But actually, what has been rankling me recently is the incredible self-centredness of the character Clary in Shadowhunters on Netflix. Look, OK, I know it's for teens and the a particular review service says it's shit. And it is kind of shit. But I like the magic shows (if not as much as the Viking shows). But the girl is just horrendous - a narcissist turned up to 11 out of 10. What makes it worse is that she's also 'very powerful', with pure angelic blood and so on and so fucking forth. Now, this is not uncommon in teen-dramas. I began to feel the same about Harry Potter in the last book I read. I wanted to slap the self-indulgent, specky, four eyed git. AND Bloom in The Winx Saga is if anything WORSE than bloody Clary. Urrrrggghhhh. Mind you, the progenitor of these selfish women has to be Meredith Grey in Grey's Anatomy. I spent however many seasons hoping she really would manage to die.

Why are these shows like this? All these characters seem to be 'doing it for mom' or 'my best friend' but it's NOT. They don't think of the other's actual needs but of what they need from them or of their projection of them. And we are meant to idolise these narcissistic cows!

Feminism will be beaten by the women in teen and twenty-something TV dramas. Seriously. These women are not empowered: they are manipulative and selfish. So there.

MEEEE-OOOWWWW.
