White Wing

Writer: CroneCrone

Today, Divo and Diva had two youngsters with them - recently, I've just seen one.

You can just see the two youngsters in the background.

One was definitely the white wing crow.

Divo always chased this one away from the food - I had laid out two food piles in anticipation of this - and even the other fledgling chased White Wing away. Diva did not... OK, I could have assumed Divo was the one being aggressive... and I think that's more likely.

The other fledgling has paler stripes in the same place, but nowhere near as marked as this crow. What's more, the white seems to be clearer on the upper wing than in any other crow I have seen with white or grey wing feathers.

White Wing ducks or flaps away from the attacks, but returns... they are certainly 'meant' but don't appear harmful attacks. And the young crow has a strong character, it seems.

The first time I saw White Wing, the fledgling was trying to feed with the Driveways - who had no doubts about chasing him or her away.

They have been regularly feeding - waiting for me near the driveway. I see the Flyings regularly and for the first time in ages saw the Playgrounds, who recognised me. The Brave Three are occasionally a Three (with Four in the group... confusing, I know) but are not brave anymore. CD seemed to be the courageous member of the group. Four does associate me with food and Droopy and Three look out for me, but they are very flighty. I wonder if Four was sickly - I said he seemed very small and scruffy - and they were hyper-protective. Four no longer looks small and had grown a lovely plumage. The Fluffies seem to have left. Maybe I'll see them again later in the year.
