...and what did I do with them? Well, I sort of left them too long and then threw them on the compost...
Meanwhile, I am listening to Against the Machine by Paul Kingsnorth, which is invigorating. One of the things he would suggest is using the bloody quinces rather than buying avocados, Though that would hardly be top of the list of his critique of the times we live in.
Some of his claims can sound reactionary... holding a political similarity, perhaps, with the likes of Jordan Peterson and Douglas Murray. I don't think he maps onto them exactly though - most notably because of his felt connection to land. That aspect of his work is, I think, important. I also appreciate the point he makes about the Machine as a homogenising force that directs action in service of Mammon. I also am inclined to agree that much of the rhetoric espoused by the Progressive Left is as distant from earth and meaning as the tripe from the Right. Plus, he writes well.
I finished Comanche Moon. Yes, that was good. And now I am starting on The Maniac by Benjamin Labatut. Already, just a few pages in, I can say it's BRILLIANT. Though the review I have linked to suggests the quality may decline.
And, what else? Been looking through some of my text books to garner information about human views of animals in the past. That has been vaguely interesting.
And my foot's still a bit sore.
