Calm(ish) after the storm

There had been a lot of rain. So much rain that the rivers at Cottesbrooke seemed higher than I have ever seen them, and there was standing water in places where I am sure it had never been before.
Turbulence in my mind too. The previous day, I only went out for the birds and to go to the chemist asking for sleeping pills. They gave me some anti-histamine. Said take one or maybe two. I took two and two amytriptaline and was still awake at 4am.
Fresh air, i thought, was an answer. I had promised to take Chilli dog out, so I lured her into the car.

There was a shooting party in the woods. bang bang bang. The dog didn't take much notice. I saw a kestrel fly out alarmed and watched a pheasant scamper away. Bang bang bang.
The swans were together, in a different field.
The dog was very good. I had her off the lead all the time. She didn't want to get back in the car afterwards. My car didn't want her in it - she was, unsurprisingly, wet and muddy.
I was glad to get out, but the hangovers of turbulence have this painful duration. I started thinking that having a short time back in therapy might not be a bad thing.

Wonderful photo of Chilli. Glad you got out. Yes turbulence has after effects. Hard stuff.
