A few weeks ago I posted a link to a talk given by Peter Piot, Professor of Global Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Today I learned that shortly after giving this talk, he came down with Covid-19 and will ill for seven weeks. He was on oxygen in hospital for some of that time. This is his account of the experience and it has ramped up my level of concern. Not so much for me, but for the state of the world until a vaccine can be produced in such numbers that global-wide vaccination is possible. As the peerless science reporter Laurie Garrett explains, that will demand the big-pharma showing it has an interest in curative medicine beyond profit and will also demand that the two most powerful men on the planet, Donald J. Trump and Xi Jinping, quit their mutual recriminations and do as the USSR and the USA did during the height of the Cold War regarding the smallpox vaccination programme - lead the world for global good rather than self-interest.
