Found meaning

Writer's picture: CroneCrone

Meaningfulness is to be found in our spiritual capacity to keep the ecocosm on course, by teaching our hearts to practise affirmation, and by awakening our faculty of active, outreaching, world-directed love. Though a tendency to ‘tread lightly’ on the earth, and to take practical steps to safeguard the particular manifestations of Nature, will flow inevitably from such an attitude, the crucial contribution will be the attitude itself, a contribution of the heart and spirit. (Mathews 2006, 113)

This is a lovely quote... I think it's rather easier to live it when the skies are blue.

I do wish I could get closer to the starlings. These photos are hugely blown up and cropped.

And even at this distance they don't really appreciate being watched.

Meaning then. Well, I guess I am certain about one thing - and this is nothing new - uncertainty is the way to go. So maybe even meaningfulness has to be held lightly, has to be plastic rather than lithic.

Maybe it doesn't matter that I don't really know what I think. Maybe it only matters that what I do is kept in a small circle such that when I act, with love and respect, I can calculate with relative accuracy that I have done as little harm and as much good as possible.

Anyway, I have seen Tane a few times which has been pleasing. No further sign of the goldcrests or the nuthatch.

The Driveway Crows watch my car come down the road and are there on the aerials opposite staring at me as I get out of the car. I can't escape.

And a recommendation: Summertime by Danielle Celermajer. The link offers a discussion between the author and some commentators.
