It's lovely to see Diva, but....

Writer: CroneCrone

I was worried about CD. I didn't see him during three trips to the park.

Now, Diva is a character. Now that she has her own patch, she seems to fly around less. When she's on the ground, I go over and feed her. She runs to the peanuts with the charming little wing-flaps that accelerate her progress.

Her mate stays in the tree above, watching. He only comes down when I am far enough away.

Even though I say this is their patch, the Brave Trio and the Flying Two occasionally launch an aerial assault. Dive doesn't turn over onto her back. She just ducks and the attacker seems to slide over her. The Fluffies hop over, all fluffed up and cawing, but she seems not to mind that too much. I give them suet pellets in their preferred place, which is what they want.

So, it was nice to see Dive. And the Fluffies, Flyings, Driveways, Braves and Feisties but no CD.

And the mood is still unsettled. The Flyings now seem to be attacking the Feisties in their traditional Feisty domain. And the Flyings are even more loth to land when I am anywhere near. They fly around me to get my attention. They chase off the Feisties. But when I leave them nuts of their own, they just sit looking from the trees until I've gone to the other side of the park. They are on a hair-trigger these days.

The Braves were in attendance. I have taken to calling the third one (aside from Droopy and the absent CD) Three. This is Three in a tree.

I was concerned not to see CD for a whole day and a morning. I started to fear that he'd.... well.

Today, though, that figure flying close, landing and looking expectant. I threw him dog treats as a reward and then laid down the traditional repast of peanuts, suet pellets and cat food.

He was soon joined by Three (at the back) and Droopy.

What's he been doing? Foraging elsewhere? Sleeping elsewhere?

Maybe the park's got too stressy what with all the cawing and flapping between Flyings and Feisties.

PS I have a long way to go. Check out this wonderful little film about a crow family in Berlin.

What a great crow report! I'm relieved of course that CD returned and I like your wonderings about his wandering. That German film is a gift to watch. Lovely. I will be rewatching it.

p.s. Happy Christmas Eve xx
