More things on trees

Regarding the webs yesterday, moth guru Mischa says probably ermine moths and those were just the discarded husks. So, there you have it.
These lovely fungi were on a fallen tree... either a poplar or a willow.

Astonishing the forms that life can take, is it not?
I noted that the horse chestnuts in Oxford are as covered in leaf miner as the ones in Northamptonshire, but more impressively I found a tree with some remarkable fungal growths.
This tree grows against the wall of my former college and has grown away from the wall, so it leans into the passage. The wall, strangely, seems to have also grown away from the tree and seems distinctly curved at that point. It may also be related to the action of the tree's roots.
The horse chestnut's branches grow around the pantry of the pub on the opposite side of the passage, and its shadow fell pleasingly on the sloped roof.

Not strictly things on trees, but more a case of a tree on a thing... I found the ginkgo's shadow equally pleasing.

And this was the front door of what used to be a restaurant or wine bar. It has been closed for years, but the building, an old chapel or meeting hall, I think, was lovely. We used to call it Pseud's.

Good post! So glad you had your camera with you. Also glad you have Mischa the moth guru to consult. Especially love the photos of the shadows from the horse chestnut branches & the gingko leaves.
