Not the best of puns.
I was standing under the lilac tree, as I do every morning. The thick canopy of jasmine protected me from the rain. The sprinkling rain gathered into drops, tipping the leaves., which then slanted down, sending the water plocking loudly onto the next leaf down. Just as watery, the sound of the robins. One, not Tane, subsinging invisibly in the honeysuckle. Another, in a tree some twenty or so yards away. Their song has a liquid quality. I imagined it sprinkling, forming into droplets, falling. There's a haiku in this. I set CC the challenge.
For two days (and this happens after the videos that you won't see until the end of the month), the robins have been less conspicuous.
It seems one hangs out in the honeysuckle and one in the hedge between my garden and the neighbour's man-shed. They occasionally chase each other, but seem fairly tolerant... more some shouting and posturing then they go back to their places. When Tane comes in - which he has done briefly - it seems one comes out of hiding and Tane chases that one and then eventually - though increasingly swiftly - goes back to the tattoo parlour hedge.
I don't want anything bad to happen to either of the garden robins, but I wish that Tane were one of them.
(The very next day, I had a little more time with Tane...)
As I write, 4th September, Baldy Dunnock looks a little better. Maybe just fluffed up in the rain. Lopsy still has the huge tumour but it looks rather hardened now and she continues to hop around and eat. the blackbirds have been less visible, I see one male occasionally. He sits in the lilac or honeysuckle. The starlings are less frequent and less numerous. The tits are still around.
I thought I saw a sparrowhawk in the park the other day, and I remembered the starling I found which looked like a bird kill. I wonder if that is having an impact on the garden birds.
Anyway. Wet and not very cheery.
Mind you, the spider seemed happier the next day...
The lilac and jasmine have felt very supportive during this very tough period of work on the Paralympics. I still have five hard days to go and am flagging terribly.
And, thinking about my Croning, I need a new thing... I am considering this.
I commend you for getting through the Paralympics. Quite a challenge, so congratulations! I hope the dunnocks survive. The spiders are feasting!! Must now go and have a proper look at the pendant link ...
Unlike you folks, we've had mostly sunshine and not much rain. I want to write a haiku as requested. Here's one which makes use of dew not rain. I'll keep thinking about your idea of liquid songs -- sprinkling and collecting as droplets (lovely imagery). In the meantime -
