When I went into the kitchen today, the lights didn't go on. I went into the bathroom - no light. I thought my electricity had gone out - my brother had been without power for three days so it fely fated.
But all the sockets worked and the lights in the other rooms. It didn't make sense.
I flicked all the fuses in the fuse box and nothing changed.
So I called an electrician. A lot of money later it turned out there was nothing wrong with the bathroom light - it's a power saver thing and turns on slowly and I hadn't given it time - and the kitchen switch was at fault.
The electrician changed the switch but in the process had convinced me that I should have a water-resistant light in the bathroom and that my kitchen lights are really ugly. So I have bought two new light fittings and booked him to fit them next week.
I am such a sucker.
Anyway, in the evening I was cooking in the kitchen and suddenly the lights went off.
To my credit I burst out laughing - and that was before I realised the Wuji had done it. The new cord for the switch hangs lower than the old one and it was within Siamese-range.
The positives: I have light; I will have safer, prettier lights (though ugly unsafe lights have been fine for the last twenty years); I did not blow myself up.
That is the bright side.
