Running late

An old pal from University came to stay and that involved more wine than I have drunk in one session for maybe ten years. I slept downstairs and he managed to leave without waking me. I hope I wasn't snoring like a wild boar in heat.
Anyway, something of a headache and a brain fog impeded progress when I did get up. And there were the cats and the hungry garden birds to deal with. There was also the need to move items like pillows and duvets from one place to another.
In addition, I had final revisions to do for the two papers and some sort of admin stuff (at least, I probably did). So I ended up going out for my trot in the lovely later afternoon light.

I was listening to Andrew Miller's The Land in Winter, which was very good. Well drawn characters, bleak and tender in turns. Honest. I've also been listening to Christine Webb's The Arrogant Ape, which I should love, but don't. I guess because in part it's rather obvious to me. It doesn't have the humour and personality of Robert Sapolsky's A Primate's Memoir which while not motivated by any attack on anthropocentrism makes the animal characters rich and compelling, thus serving that end, in my view, rather bettr.

Miller's book sounds good. Love that late afternoon photo.
