A few weeks back we had two days of serious heat. And that reminded me of an old Fast Show sketch, which you can see here.
Now, I am not a huge fan of extreme heat, but, actually, apart from the impact on the plants, it wasn't too bad - in the day time. Trying to sleep is another matter. I brought a load of duvets downstairs and made up a bed on the cool stone floor in the coolest room in the house. It was not a complete success.
One day I had to drive to London and was glad that I had had the car's air conditioning conditioned. The other day I went to the Reserve to do office tasks in an air conditioned room, but the WiFi was down and I spent a lot of the time talking to the nice IT guy. I tried to paint some signs, but needed a smaller paintbrush. I considered some other tasks but as I was alone I was a bit wary of attempting them. To be fair, I didn't mind being outside.
Instead, I went home and managed to upload some data remotely before doing yoga in the park.
There was no one there. I expected tumbleweed.
You'll be pleased to know that my baby poplars are doing fine - though much else is deciding that this is just not what they'd planned for.
Anyway, I did yoga in the shade and it was actually very pleasant.
A crow watched me for at least half an hour. As soon as I got up to move, he flew onto the lamp - the Driveways' place - and I dutifully laid out food. He was the only one I saw.
however, shock, horror, the day before I saw the Divines with THREE babies. One had white markings on the underside of his wing feathers and I thought it was a youngster I'd seen getting chased off by the Driveways. Then I saw White Wing closer to the Driveways, but not sharing the food.
I feel an affinity with this outsider. Surprise, surprise.
