It seems fitting.


Maybe this one is an ancient oak. I am sure the girth at a height of 1.5 metres is 4.5 metres or more.



Its canopy is receding and the roots! The base of the trunk is a series of caves and tunnels!


I went deeper into this little wood, following a badger path. I found no actual signs of badgers but I did see a row of three trees that had fallen and lay, with just threads of wood attaching them to their roots, but who were managing to come into leaf. Unless they fell since the leaves came out, which may be possible, these trees show remarkable resilience.


And finally, I saw this. Is this ash?

I think so...

Yup, the last photo looks like an ash. The buds are opposite each other on the twig (not alternate).


What a fine old oak! I imagine the bottom cavities are used by various creatures.
