There are many of these small doves around our hotel.
I also saw something that was completely new to me - I think it was a common myna, which is recorded in Qatar and is one of the 100 worst invasive species. It was a funny looking thing, but I liked it.
When I went into the city, I saw a lot of pigeons and house sparrows... and then I saw the bird market where there were thousands of birds in cages. Finches, budgies, canaries, lovebirds, cockatiels, parrots, parakeets, ducks, hens, doves - including some miniature doves the size of budgies. The colours! Oh, they were astonishing. The most sublime colours.
I did not take pictures. I wanted to let them out. But they were all healthy. I did start thinking of avian flu, though.
There were also some dashing green reptiles and baby rabbits.
And one falconry shop was open before I headed off.
I was reading about the myna. They're doing very well for themselves! The bird market - Were the birds making lots of noise? Must have felt strange going through there. Good point about avian flu. Pretty dove photo. Not sure how I feel about falconry. The people are really into it, aren't they. I hope they are treated as well as possible.
