Twilight in Doha

Low sun painting steel girders pink.

4:30 already the feel of evening,

as heat flows from desert to sea.

On a construction site, stunted acacia,

with hoary trunks and fine filigreed leaves,

shiver a welcome to the breeze.

Birds converse unseen in the scrub.

Only the doves fly, in pairs, across pastel space,

and above the arid aesthetics of an oil rich state.
