Another thing to add to the to-do list

This was growing on a fallen ash branch - or, rather, half a tree - in the copse.


I found it rather wonderful... if a little disgusting. No scent, like very hard rubber to the touch, and a little sticky.

I thought it was Coriolopsis gallica, which is a fungus found growing on decaying wood and not considered pathogenic. This fungus is suggested as one to be put on a red list!


But although Brownflesh Bracket, as it's commonly known, can be orange, I had second thoughts and then considered Inonotus hispidis, or Shaggy Bracket, which is often found on ash. In its senescence, this fungus goes black and seems to fall off.


That maybe confirms the identification as I found this...
