Birdies

A brief visit to the Reserve, as I was checking a couple of horse chestnuts. I thought that the heron was a tree stump until I saw him stalking along in the shallows.
I didn't want to disturb him so I didn't go any closer. To get this close to the swans, I did scare off a small group of ducks. There were a pair of wagtails flittering around near them. They like being close to water.

A chiffchaff was calling from the hawthorns.
I went on to check a beech near the ruined church, and there I thought I heard a raven overhead. Wrens, tits and robins were around and then I recalled seeing goldcrests there. At that moment, I heard a pair!

I think they were youngsters chasing each other.
At home, I did a final bit of tidying in the garden and w robin (Falco?) appeared to inspect proceedings. He went onto the fence and started squeaking. Another robin responded by tutting. This carried on for a while, with Falco's squeaks occasionally turning into the starting phrases of song.
I wondered what was going on.... it was definitely important to him.

I liked the description of squeeking & tutting between the robins. The wee goldcrests are wonderful! Our kinglets are in the same family ...I think.
