Brrrr Burrrr....

Writer's picture: CroneCrone

Yes, well... another bad pun. But what a huge burr on small branches! Birches are really good at burrs. They are connected to the female, motherhood... maybe the burrs are their pregnant bellies?

Anyway, I saw this in a park close to me. I also saw this amazing oak, whom I wanted to add to the Ancient Tree Inventory. He was already there! Circumference 5.12m apparently.

There was another veteran, an ash. This tree is described as a "natural pollard", having lost its top.

While I was there, I saw that someone had left bread for the crows, I think, but the squirrels were at it. A lot of therm. But one squirrel bossed the lot. He was VERY fat and only had half a tail! I don't know whether that half tail came as a result of an injury - perhaps a fight - or if he was born like that, but, whatever the case, he was the leader of the pack.

There's a small lake/large pond and I saw an Aylesbury duck swimming with a mallard drake. Someone threw food for the birds and the geese, gulls, and mallards hurried over. The Aylesbury didn't. Then she realised she'd lost her friend and was swimming around quacking anxiously. She was very happy when she found him again!

An excellent BRRR pun! I've read that squirrels can easily lose their tails when attacked. Beautiful big oak!
