Yes, a visit to the park. These are the Unbraves. Once again, I left food at the back then walked round to the front and just called - all three were foraging on the other side of the football changing rooms and hadn't seen me. As soon as I called, they took to the wing, flew over the building and started eating.
But they proved their name when a pigeon showed up...
Unbravely, they fled.
The squirrel still plagues them!
This is Mr Playground. He actually wasn't happy that I filmed him and it took time for his mate to come down.
Still, these two are relatively calm and I managed to photograph one of them flying again.
When the bird landed, I think the male, I carried on getting pictures. Now, the sun was shining at him and I saw the eyes of other crows flash on the same day, but I think he might be blind in one eye. This might be why they are so solicitous of each other??
Mind you, the next time I visited, I couldn't see a white eye on either Playground, so maybe it was the light.
I tried to get a shot of the Flyings, but they were so upset that they left the food for the dogs. Which made the dog-walkers unhappy as well.
Mr and Mrs Driveway were annoyed too. This is Mr and he was not pleased, while his mate was slow to descend from the trees.
The next day I heard a very stressed crow and saw that one was chasing one of the kites. Len Howard says she could tell the emotions of birds from the sound of their calls and I can too. This crow was scared but defiant, almost desperate. It made me feel such a profound sense of compassion. Then the kite screamed - I can't tell emotion from kite calls... they always sound mournful. But in this case I thought the kite was annoyed, rather than threatened or threatening. Nothing happened, but there are all these FEELINGS going on around us. Powerful ones. And usually we have no idea.
Glad to have a park visit. Interesting about sensing emotions. Maybe the crow was protecting their nest? I'm a bit surprised that the crows made way for the pigeon. And the squirrel was as usual. It's a complex park community! :-) Keep an eye on that white/blue eye. It certainly is visible in two of the pics.
