I took this picture because I thought it was a whole creature, not part of a creature. There was a leg - which MOVED - and that's freaky if it was only part of a creature. Nonetheless,I am assuming that it is part of a Lacewing, but I had hoped it was a Clearwing. That's because Kate said that she wanted to see a Clearwing and I thought I might have pipped her to it... but no... Clearwings are very cool.
As for the Lacewings, they eat aphids. I wish they'd colonise my Cherry tree.
There were a lot of butterflies - I saw Meadow Browns mating and some Ringlets, some Tortoiseshells, a Common Blue and maybe a Skipper of some kind.
There were also various Bumble Bees and Hoverflies and normal flies. I became quite fond of one as it did that leg and head cleaning thing while sitting on my inner elbow. Apparently, they taste with their feet.
But it all started with this little chap.
A very pretty web, which had taken a great deal of work, but I was concerned there would not have been much for him to eat so I put him outside. Now I wonder if that was the right thing to do. I mean, a spider that small wouldn't need a lot to eat and one assumes things do come into my car. If he were a house spider, the outside might be the worst place for him.
The way the light shines... he looks like the centre of a solar system.
