It turns out that Companion Crone likes invertebrates AKA bugs.
As it happens, on a recent stroll to see Kairos, I spotted a few critters of that ilk.
First, the butterflies.
The first row shows a gatekeeper; then the underwing of someone brighly coloured on the other side... must have been a peacock; green-veined white; and at the bottom a ringlet.
Dragonflies. These I think are common darters.
They are all common - even expanding their ranges... I'm no less pleased to see them.
Likewise, this one, in the garden. A speckled wood.
I was also delighted to see this chap in the garden.
And there's a video... with an interesting opening and some dragonfly slowmo...
Another, larger, dragonfly came a week later. I don't know what this is.
This one is a hoverfly, not, as I first thought, a wasp.
But this is the best. The spider was off somewhere, but isn't this stunning?
On spiders, two of the long-legged-small-bodied ones [Cellar spiders, I think you'll find. - Ed.] were sitting like filigree sculptures of themselves in a corner of the bathroom ceiling for a few days. I wondered at their relationship. Then, there was one. That one has been alone for the last two days. In the same place. I was feeling a bit sorry for the lonely one, thinking the other had gone off roaming. But it turns out that, in hard times, they'll eat each other. So perhaps I should be feeling sorry for the one that has disappeared.
Speaking of spiders and their webs -- I took this picture last week of the door of our car. The spider herself is a bit out of focus but you can see reflections of our house, clouds and her shadow!! AND of course, her magnificent web. xx
Indeed I do like invertebrates - they are beautiful and interesting and impressive creatures. I am in awe of the variety of lives that you found on your walk to Kairos. The butterflies you show are new to me and not the few types we see flying in our backyard or the nearby park. Trying to find out more online. That speckled wood is so "furry" looking! Cool! I'm always so pleased to see dragonflies. An ancient insect. Love watching them fly. I must check out the pond in the park to see if any are around. That beautiful insect in photo (and also in video) - I think that's a damselfly! Notice how the wings are upright at res…
