Maybe just for a day

In the garden one morning, I saw a little robin hopping around. It was completely unafraid. In fact, it fell asleep in front of me. I worried that this was Blossom no.2 and it was dying, but when it woke up, it hopped about lively as you like. Then I heard a parent call, and the baby flew up into the tree to find the adult.

Precious moments for me. I hoped (aren't I supposed to have given up hope?) that I would see it again. And I think I glimpsed it once more. It's only been a few days.

I hang around in the garden. Get scolded by tits. Sometimes there's a jay staring at me of wheeling silently away. Or the loud flap of pigeons departing. A shadow in the hedge will be a dunnock.

Even Blessing and the adult blackbirds have been absent.

It's lonely out there.

At the Reserve today, Dave saw a white tailed eagle. It turned out the bird was a juvenile heading back to the release site on the Isle of Wight from the Cairngorms in Scotland. Dave was delighted, but the day ended with him dropping his camera... and breaking it. Thank goodness it's insured but it will still cost him a fortune, the excess is fairly punishing.

Anyway, he said he'll send me some fox videos to add to my presentation about them in November.

Absolutely beautiful photos of the baby, showing the textures, colours and patterns. I think it's ok to hope, and hope is helped by "hanging around in the garden". I was reading that birds tend to be quieter and not around as much because they're in between activities and/or some are moulting feathers. 🙂 🤎 p.s. Sorry that David broke his camera. Exciting that he saw the juvenile eagle headed out on the big trip!
