The Pair
A merlin cried
incessantly – go away go away,
circling the tallest spruce
in the lot across the street.
There must be a nest –
go away go away (the shriek
like fingernails on chalkboard).
Today the calls
are few – instead, the two
appear and perch
together, on the tree-top,
staring at the scene below –
silent and both readied.
You've drawn a very fine and happy merlin to go with the poem. Many thanks 😃 x
