A raven one day, an owl the next. The creatures of night, darkness, death, and wisdom.
This was truly magical. I caught sight of a large white shape in the field and walked around the perimeter of the Reserve to see better. There! the barn owl flying and then dropping down to catch her prey and eat. the second catch, so quickly after the first, demanded that she spread her wings over the meal. She carried part of it back into the woods.
I was enraptured.
Already, as I was walking over the grass, I had seen a field mouse scurrying through the tunnels in the sward and I realised that the meadow was a labyrinth of covered pathways for small mammals. I was walking over highways and byways. I felt the electricity of life beneath my feet and hurried off the grass and onto the track.
As the evening approached, the birds were changing their behaviour. Grebes seeking out their mates. Gulls flocking together. Rooks heading to roosts. And the light! Such beauty.
Lovely
