Really, I thought I ought to start 2022 on a more positive note.

As well as the gift on Christmas Day, I had a present on my birthday.

You may recall a while back that I described how once and only once CD had 'cooed' at me, tucking his beak into his chest and making a sound deeper and more sonorous than the usual caw.

Well, on the morning of the 27th he made this sound repeatedly. As I responded and gave him a treat, he seemed to be using it as a means to request treats. It was a lovely experience as he stayed close by me much of that morning.

The dog is getting less able to trek all around the park to visit and revisit all the crows. This is fortunate for the Driveways and Brave Three as they are at the top end where we come in. I get to the Flyings and Divo easily enough and if I see the Playgrounds or Fluffies on the ground I make sure to dash over. The Feisties I have not seen so often though if they're there I will get to the bottom end of the park

When I came home on the 27th I had a fair bit of work to do in my office and I was sure I could hear that sonorous call outside my house. When I finished work I looked outside but I was too late. Was I just imagining it or was CD calling me?

The next day, it was very windy in the morning and I watched two crows playing in the gusts - flying up and turning their wings into the wind to be gusted along above the treetops. They did it repeatedly, a pair of them, chasing each other but with no signs of aggression.

When Three flew over for food, he used the wind to bring him to land in a way I can't describe... but it was clear that he was utilising its strength to come to earth in a stylised way. CD picked up a twig in his beak, rose and dropped the stick into his feet in a split second of magical dexterity and came to land with the twig still held in his feet - the wind and the angle of his wings had allowed him to land as lightly as a feather.

On the way home, I saw this crow opposite my house and I thought it was CD. I couldn't tell from below, but I think he has worked out where I live. Before, it has been the Driveways who have monitored my progress as they live closer to the house. This time, I like to think it was him, ready to coo agaun.
