I have been noticing the influx of insects over the past weeks - about six weeks, I guess. Various different bees or bee-like people. They tend to be difficult to photograph.
Unlike the shell bearing people. This beauty was on the lilac, where the jasmine wraps around one of the stems.
One morning I saw a gorgeous slug. I think a leopard slug. I took a picture. Then trod on him. By mistake. Consequently, I erased the evidence.
But back to snails, and I have been seeing plenty of snails on trees again. Possibly due to the wet weather. These pictures feature an old horse chestnut on one of my runs who boasted a great many inhabitants on one small area of trunk.
There was also a pebble placed in one of the tree's wounds. I brought the pebble home as a memento.
A memento? Why? Well, I sat with the tree for a while and enjoyed being there. I also took one of the seedlings from around the trunk. That may or may not survive. So far, it does not look very happy, but I live in hope.
My feeling with this tree, who shall hereafter be known as the Brampton Horse Chestnut, was that it matters just to care, to be curious, to feel connected. Even if you can't express that to anyone or encourage anyone to feel the same. It matters intrinsically anyway. That is a reassuring idea and I was happy to embrace it.
