Wood and resin

In the lunch break of the Woodland Trust training day, I sneaked out to explore a craft fair. It was organised by the Guild of Cotswold Craftsmen. There was beautiful jewellery, wonderful paintings, great pottery and these incredible panels of wood and resin.

The artist responsible for these is Christophe Gillibrand. I was enchanted by these pieces!

I bought a bracelet, blue resin and apple wood, which I am wearing. At the desk, I said how wonderful everything was and how I had determined NOT to spend any money, but these piece just blew me away. The woman at the desk pointed to my right and said, "Well, there's the man responsible!"

I was gushing by this time and walked with Christophe to his display and said how the colours and the patterns of wood and resin just enchanted me. I was almost lost for words. He said it was exciting as he never knew in advance what the resin would do.

It was awkward as I realised the woman was also one of the artists so I found myself attempting to praise everything in the hope of commending her work - because, really, everything was tempting.

Crafts like this thrill me - the specificity of the pieces. The creativity. The... there's a kind of freedom of expression... wonderful.
